Aspie teen and footy

The Aspie teen plays footy in a disabled league but boy! those players make some AFL players look like wussies!
He usually plays 2 matches and comes home slightly tired, covered in several tonnes of mud and sleeps like the dead that night.
He gets tackled like nobody's business, plays with and against 20, 30, 40 and 50 year olds (they have a 64 yr old on their own team who puts Big Bad Barry Hall to shame) but comes out smiling like a Cheshire Cat.
Some weeks he talks non-stop about the rough-housing the opposition gave them, he's slowly gaining the courage and self-confidence to get in and support/protect his team mates, still needing to learn when to stay back and when it's safe to say a few words.
This week he played in the ruck and had a ball...thankfully he listened to everyone else and showered at the ground as no bus driver in his right mind would have let him on the bus with the amount of dirt he'd managed to stick to himself!
This footy team has really been the best thing for him.

Autism doco and blather

Reminder to those who requested it that tonight at 10.05pm on ABC1 is "Alone in a Crowded Room" a 1 hour doco on what happens to autistic children when they grow up.
Full synopsis available to read HERE.
Some people - and many govt depts - seem to think autistic kids outgrow their autism, although in my experience that misconception in govt depts does appear to have a direct correlation to budgets and funding.
Sorry, is my cynicism showing again?
Should be an interesting show!
So, the Aspie teen is off at his first footy match this morning; both he and his dad were up before the crack of dawn, heating up soup for the thermos, buttering rolls and obsessively double, triple, quadruple checking backpacks were packed correctly.
A little song we nurses used to sing..."What's that refrain that goes through my brain? OCD ! OCD!"
Leaving moi to run amok about the house.
The possibilities of what I could get up to...while supervising Dad...are innumerable.. countless.. several.. a few I can count on 1 hand.
Oh, be still my beating heart!
It shall be crochet hooks at 30 paces with yarn flung about with wild abandon.

Footy

Got back in touch with a good friend from my son's early intervention days.
Was like we'd only spoken yesterday instead of almost 4 years lol.
Yakked?
We didn't stop chattering like a pair of magpies *snort*, swapping suggestions and ideas.
She's been looking for teen swimming lessons for her boy, which I was able to recommend and then she to me about a footy club for my boy.
Cos we've tried the whole local football club thing, done the bullying thing ("but he's only joking when he calls your son an idiot, it's a bit of sporty ribbing. Geeze youse are thin-skinned" Ahuh. Yeah, right. In the carpark, away from the field, whilst throwing rocks?) and we got the t-shirt souvenir to prove it.
